Traditional houses are part of the amazing experience in Iran. Most traditional houses of minimum 400 years ago in traditional cities has been converted to beautiful boutique accommodations for visitors. Many of these ancient houses in each city are aligned and made of the material of their environment. Some of the well-known houses are as following:

1. Tabatabaei House

The Tabatabaei House is a historic house in Kashan, Iran. It was built in the early 1880s for the affluent Tabatabaei family. It consists of four courtyards, wall paintings, elegant stained glass windows, and other classic features of traditional Persian residential architecture, such as biruni (the public, common area) and andaruni (the private/women's quarters). It was designed by Ustad Ali Maryam, architect of the Borujerdi House and the Aminoddole Caravanserai of the Bazaar of Kashan. The house covers nearly 5,000 square meters and has been renovated. The interior yards have gardens. The building has 40 rooms, 4 courtyards, 4 basements, and 3 wind towers.

2. Borujerdi House

The Borujerdi House is a historic house in Kashan, Iran.
The house was built in 1857 by architect Ustad Ali Maryam for the wife of Seyyed Mehdi Borujerdi, a wealthy merchant. The wife came from the affluent Tabatabaei family; Seyyed Mehdi fall in love with her, and commissioned the building of this house for her.
It consists of a rectangular courtyard between a main living area (to the south) and an entrance area. It features wall paintings by the royal painter Sani ol molk, and three 40-meter-tall wind towers (two above the living area and one over the entrance area) which help cool the house to unusually cool temperatures. The main hall (reception hall) is topped by a khishkhan-type central dome, part of a geometric sculptural roofs cape that has been compared to Gaudí's Casa Milà. It has 3 entrances, and all the classic signatures of traditional Persian residential architecture, such as a biruni yard (exterior yard) and a daruni yard (andarun, interior yard). The house took eighteen years to build, using 150 craftsmen.

3. Abbasi House

The Abbasi House is a large traditional historical house located in Kashan, Iran. Built during the late 18th century, the house is an example of Kashan's residential architecture. Other such notable houses, such as the Tabatabaei House are located nearby. Said to have been the property of a famous cleric, the Abbāsi house has six courtyards that would fit the needs of different families. One of the chambers has a ceiling designed with mirror pieces so as to give the impression of a starry sky under the nocturnal glitter of candlelight. Secret passageways were also built into the house.

4. Ameri House

Ameri house is one of the most famous and favourite boutique hotel in Kashan even in Iran. The Ameri House is a huge property of 9,000 square metres. It contains dozens of rooms, two bathhouses, and seven courtyards with gardens and fountains. The main structure is made of brick. Mud and straw are used in the insulation. The inner spaces are decorated with gypsum and mirror works. Like other historic houses that are located nearby, the Ameri House was damaged through earthquakes in the 18th century, and was then rebuilt in the 19th century. It is one of the prominent historic houses of Kashan, together with the Borujerdi House, the Tabatabaei House, and others.

5. Lari House

This 150-year-old building is one of the best-preserved Qajar-era houses in Yazd. The badgirs, traditional doors, stained-glass windows, elegant archways and alcoves distinguish it as one of the city’s grandest homes. It is worth noting the particularly delicate white-and-cream plaster work, traced with slivers of mirror, which decorate the courtyard iwans.

6. Aghazadeh House

The Aghazadeh house, the most beautiful historical house of Abarkouh, belonged to Seyed Hossein Abarquei, a rich man of Qajar era. Located in the historical part of the city, the mansion is noteworthy for its Persian architecture. This building is built of adobe, clay and brick, with a yard in the center and three fronts made for different seasons of the year.
The mansion features a cruciform southern room, and a stony howz in the middle of the yard, which has made the building, especially the hall, even more delightful. The most beautiful and unique constituents of Aghazadeh mansion is a two-story windtower and kiosk.
The windtower is approximately 18 meters long and 18 square meters in area, with 19 air conditioning vents which work in coordination with the other windtower. Right next to the windtower lies a kiosk nicely decorated with stalactite vaults. The windtower acts as a cooler, while the kiosk functions as a skylight to transmit light to all the lower spaces and the hall. Photos of Abarkouh windtower has been featured on 20,000 rial bills since 2014 and many Iranian export goods.

7. Narenjestan e Ghavam House

Narenjestan e Ghavam is a historical house in Shiraz. The Qavam "Naranjestan" preserves the elegance and refinement enjoyed by the upper-class families during the 19th century. The paintings on the low ceilings of the house are inspired by Victorian era Europe.
The mirrored porch was a focal point of the house, overlooking a small garden that was designed with fountains, date palms, and flowering plants.

8. Zinat ol Molk House

This historical was originally the andaruni (private quarters) area of the neighbouring Bagh-e Naranjestan complex. The 20 finely decorated rooms are embellished with paintings, stucco decoration and mirrors, and the mosaic floors were designed to resemble ornate Persian rugs. The intimate gardens, with their fountains and fringe of palm trees, are sheltered behind a walled compound forming a sun trap in winter and a shaded refuge in summer.
